Cameras

Your camera is probably your most important piece of kit. You won’t be making a stop motion without it! If you’re starting out and don’t want to spend too much money, a good option is to get a phone or tablet with a decent camera – that way, you can download a free app to use for creating and editing your animation, and you don’t need to worry about using a computer and buying software.

Phone cameras

The Moto G4 Plus is a good option, with a great camera and highly affordable. This is what I used when I started my channel – click here to see a playlist of videos made using this phone. You can pick it up for a little over £100 on Amazon. If you need a cheaper option, the LG K8 has a 13MP camera and is now very cheap, and the Moto E5 Play offers 8MP at a similarly low price.

DSLRs

If you feel ready to take the step up to a DSLR, the Canon EOS range is a good one to go for. I use the Canon EOS 1200D, which offers stunning photo quality and at a very reasonable price.
